Sejarah PGI
Pada tanggal 6-13 November 1949 diadakan: ‘Konferensi Persiapan Dewan Gereja-gereja di Indonesia.” Seperti diketahui sebelum Perang Dunia II telah diupayakan mendirikan suatu Dewan yang membawahi pekerjaan Zending; namun karena pecahnya PD II maksud tersebut diundur. Setelah PD II berdirilah tiga buah Dewan Daerah, yaitu: “Dewan Permusyawaratan Gereja-gereja di Indonesia, berpusat di Yogyakarta (Mei 1946) ; “Majelis Usaha bersama Gereja-gereja di indonesia bagian Timur”, berpusat di Makasar (9 Maret 1947) dan “Majelis Gereja-gereja bagian Sumatera” (awal tahun 1949), di Medan.

Ketiga dewan daerah ini didirikan dengan maksud membentuk satu Dewan Gereja-gereja di Indonesia, yang melingkupi ketiga dewan tersebut. Pada tanggal 21-28 Mei 1950 diadakan Konferensi Pembentukan Dewan Gereja-gereja di Indonesia (DGI), bertempat di Sekolah Theologia Tinggi (sekarang Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Jakarta). Hadir dalam konferensi tersebut adalah :
